Chiropractic Care for Pregnant Moms & Children

Prenatal chiropractic care can help ease both mother and baby through the birth process. During pregnancy, a woman's body adapts to the many physiologic changes which occur in the nine month period. As the fetus develops, the pelvis undergoes many changes: the ligaments loosen and adjust for the increasing weight of the baby, different postural pressures on the joints such as the knees & ankles, increased abdominal weight which pulls on the lumbar spine forward, increased fluid retention, etc. During this nine month period, mother and baby share one environment. What the mother eats, the baby eats, what the mother feels, the baby feels. Therefore if the mother experiences pain, discomfort, stress, etc. so does her baby. Chiropractic adjustments throughout pregnancy can ensure optimal nervous system function which will help the body adapt to these rapid changes.
Dr. Lee is certified in the Webster Technique which focuses on optimal balance in the pelvis, abdominal muscles & ligaments. This in turn reduces constraint to the woman’s uterus allowing the baby to get into the best possible position for growth and birth. The Birth Process itself can be traumatic to the baby causing muscle strain & subluxations in the upper neck. If undetected this can predispose the baby to a host of childhood ailments ranging from ear infections, attention deficit disorder (ADD) to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
Growing evidence suggests that aches and pains that haunt us in our adult
years can be traced back to untreated childhood injuries. The consistency of a child's spinal column is more similar to cartilaginous material. The spinal column which protects the central nervous system is not completely solidified into bone until between the ages of 7-9. Childhood twists, falls and bumps can affect how the immature spine is formed. Athletic children especially, tend to run a greater risk of developing subluxations due to the increased physical demand on an impressionable, still malleable muscular
and bony structure. Children should be CHECKED preventatively for Subluxations on average 1-2 times a month during the growth period, but specifically after falls, accidents, or sports injuries. Developing subluxations during this vital period could manifest symptoms which include: growing aches & pains, muscle cramps, rounding forward of the head and shoulders, increased susceptibility to colds/infections, headaches, etc. If left
undetected, this can lead to a more chronic Vertebral Subluxation Processes. A child's physiology can change almost immediately with adjustments because children don't have the emotional attachments and muscle memories of adults.
Our goal is to adjust children and adults so that they can reach their highest potential and continually create health. Keeping the nervous system free of interference will allow optimal potential to grow into a more balanced, more self-aware, healthier adult.
